Get to Know Joy!

Welcome! I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I bring together years of clinical and research experience in counseling and psychology with a deep commitment to helping others. I hold a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix, a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from Texas Southern University, and undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Houston.

My therapeutic approach is both empathetic and eclectic, designed to support you through life’s challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress.

In addition to my work as a counselor, I have been an adjunct professor of Psychology for over 20 years, sharing my passion for the field with both graduate and undergraduate students. Teaching and mentoring future professionals brings me great joy, and I strive to create an environment where everyone feels understood, supported, and empowered on their path to wellness. I also have experience as a dissertation coach for the past 5 years, guiding students through the final stages of their academic journeys.

My commitment to holistic wellness extends to my practice as a registered yoga teacher. With certifications in yoga for trauma, depression, grief, and anxiety, along with extensive training in meditation and mindfulness, I integrate these healing practices into my therapeutic work. As a member of Yoga Alliance, the Black Yoga Teacher Alliance, Black to Yoga, and the American Psychological Association, I am passionate about helping others find balance and peace in their lives. I’m excited to be a part of your journey and look forward to supporting you in any way I can.
